Michael Moxham - Biography
Michael was raised and educated in London and Naples. He speaks 3 languages fluently: English, Italian (with a strong knowledge of Neapolitan dialect) and French. Michael's bilingual and cultural upbringing has had a huge impact and influence in both his role as a stage director and in his style.
As part of his BA Joint honours in Drama and English from Surrey University, Michael graduated with a distinction in directing. After cutting his teeth on the London fringe producing and directing many plays, he was then awarded a first time scholarship by the Italian Institute of Culture to study theatre in Milan under Giorgio Strehler and Luca Ronconi and to work for the Firenze Maggio Musicale. On return he then founded Chamber Productions that focused on staging unknown works by famous playwrights; notably winning 2 Edinburgh Fringe First Awards and extensive tours around Great Britain and Hungary. Following an invitation from Scottish Opera and The Birmingham Opera company, he moved into the world of opera and music. His Michael's career saw him assisting in top European Opera houses culminating in his work as associate director on the Royal Opera House Ring Cycle. He also was appointed director of productions for New Susssex opera for whom he directed five very successful productions. Over the years he has also developed a deep specialalist interest and love for new writing, contemporary work and world premieres in both theatre and opera.
